most splendid era of the Safavid State. This period lasted till his death in 1628.

This state is remembered as the Iran-Türkmen or Iran-Turk state. Despite the great influence of Persian culture on the Safavid people, they preserved their Türkmen identity.

  

OWªAR Türkmen DYNASTY

Nedir ªah, who had been a commander in Safavid state, came to power in Iran in 1736. Nedir ªah was descended from the Owºar tribe of the Oguz. He defeated the Uveysi people, rulers of Iran for a short period, and expelled them from Iran. Using his military might, Nedir ªah captured the throne. On Nedir ªah’s ascent to the throne, Iran gained many things. First of all, it regained the land which had been taken by the Ottoman Empire earlier. In addition, Nedir ªah defeated Babür ªah and took over Delhi.

After Nedir ªah’s death in 1747, his descendant Adyl ªah was not able to prolong the reign of the Owºar tribe. In 1750, the Owºar dynasty reached its end.

  

GAJAR Türkmen DYNASTY

The Gajars were the last Türkmen dynasty in Iran. The Gajars were also originally Türkmen. From historical sources, it is clear that the Gajars were one of the seven Oguz tribes sent by the Safavids from Anatolia to Iran as a ransom to ªyh Ala. These tribes were as follows: Ustaçli, ªamli, Tekeli, Baharly, Dulkadyr, Owºar and Gajar. The Gajars had control
